Around 1 in 5 women need some help with their own emotional health because of low mood and raised anxiety during pregnancy, or in the first year after their baby is born.
On Tuesday 12th September, 13 volunteers along with staff and trustees attended a training session led by Jenny Samuels from the ²gether NHS Foundation Trust. Jenny gave an informative and interactive session on perinatal mental health. We looked at the wide range of mental health issues mothers can experience from adjustment disorder to postpartum psychosis and how Home-Start volunteers can best help, or signpost in these situations.
Janet, one of our volunteers who attended the course said “It was very comprehensive and interesting and gave me lots of ideas to share with my Home-Start Mum should I need to. A worthwhile session”.
